Camryn's New Look

I took the kids to our friend and optometrist, Liz yesterday where Camryn received some "exciting" news. Apparently, she's been waiting for this moment her whole life!  Those were her exact words when she found out she needs glasses.  I remember wishing I needed glasses as a kid too.  Jerrod felt the exact opposite when he found out he needed them.  Must be a girl thing.  She is only slightly near-sighted right now, but could be following in her daddy's footsteps.  She picked out a super cute pair and is anxiously awaiting their arrival in 2 weeks.  Here she is showing them off in the doctor's office.

Down Storybook Lane

Camryn's Enrichment class has been working all semester on a play called "Down Storybook Lane."  Last week Carson and I went to Colfax to watch the performance.  It was so cute!  I had trouble getting the video to upload, but here is a picture of our little kitten, "Milky".

Ear Piercing

Camryn came downstairs this morning, and the first words out of her mouth were, "Mom, I want to get my ears pierced"  So, we headed to Claire's this evening.  She was so excited!  She kept her hair pulled back so everyone could see!

Summer Dreamer's Finale

Wednesday was Camryn's last day of Summer's Dreamer's Academy.  Overall, I'd say it was a great experience for her.  She learned to play the cello, dissected an owl's stomach, met new friends, earned cool prizes and learned a few Jackson 5 songs!  She would come home singing this song everyday!  I think it's hilarious that this is what a bunch of kindergarten-2nd graders worked on for 4 weeks!  Here she is singing it out!

Super Hero Day

Through the Pittsburgh Public Schools, Camryn has been able to participate in Summer Dreamer's Academy.  It was a 4 1/2 week-long program that ran from 8:30-4 everyday!  During the 2nd to last week, they had a spirit week.  Thursday was Super Hero Day, and Camryn decided to go as Underdog.

Photo Shoot

Camryn and I had a girl's date last night. We went and had her 6 year pictures taken...just a little behind schedule, and then we went out for dinner at one of the kids' favorite restaurants, Cici's Pizza. She said she had so much fun getting her pictures taken. I asked what her favorite part was and she said, "posing for the pictures!" We're in trouble!

Testing, Testing, 1,2,3

Camryn has been testing out new language. For instance the other day, when she was getting ready for bed she just randomly said, "Murder pilge." I asked her if she knew what those words meant. She didn't and when I told her what murder meant, she said she shouldn't ever say that word again! Then the other night she was playing Super Mario Bros on the Wii and Mario died and she said, "sh_t." We were at a friend's house and the 4 of us adults looked at her and said, "What did you say?" She repeated it without hesitation. She's so innocent and has no clue that she's saying something inappropriate! I'm just glad she's testing them out on us rather than her friends at school!

It's official...

As of June 16th we are officially the parents of a 1st grader! Camryn finished her kindergarten year knowing how to read AND write! You should see the stack of stories, "informational how-to's", "personal narratives", etc that we have around the house! It's amazing to me. Her progress report came today with all 3s! (based on a scale of 1 being the lowest and 3 the highest) Needless to say, we're pretty proud of our little girl!

Happy Birthday, Camryn

Coming in to get out of the rain

Playing "Dog Trainer Says"

A Game of "Ruff, Ruff, Meow!"

Camryn celebrated her birthday, the 2nd time around, with a dog-themed party at our house. There were 14 kids running around in our backyard and then in the house when it started pouring! It was exhausting, but they had a good time!

Soccer on the Turf

Camryn's soccer team was able to play on the turf for yesterday's game! They needed to put up fences and guardrails! If one kid kicked the ball from the other end and no one got in front of it, it would just roll right into the goal! Defense was key for the turf!

Also, notice the "snaggle tooth" in Camryn's mouth! She refuses to let us pull that tooth out. It's hanging by a thread! GROSS!!

Soccer Pictures

In case you can't tell, Camryn is the one with the hot pink, tie-dyed tube socks! Couldn't talk her into anything else!!

Soccer Champ

Camryn started her first season of soccer last week. Tuesday was her first practice, and today she had her first game! She did such a great job for never having played soccer before last Tuesday. She even scored 2 goals!! I have pictures, but we had to wipe our regular computer, so I have to get it all set up again. Stay tuned for pictures...from Easter, soccer, and all of the fun things we've been up to since before Easter.

Ice Skating

We took the kids ice skating this weekend. Camryn has been begging to go, and she even wanted to take skating lessons. Since she had never been, we decided to hold off on the lessons to be sure she really liked skating. She sometimes has trouble walking, let alone balancing on a blade on the ice! Turns out she loves ice skating! Carson, not so much.

Broken Bones

I wasn't sure which one of our kids was going to break something first, but if I had to bet, I would have said Carson. Well, I would have been wrong! Wednesday I picked Camryn up from school. Her teacher said Camryn had hurt her ankle at recess, but had been walking on it all day and seemed to be doing fine. She walked home with us and didn't complain or anything. Once we got home, I had her sit so I could look at it. Her left ankle was really swollen and tender to the touch! Jerrod came home and looked at it and said it definitely needed x-rayed. Thursday morning I took her to the pediatrician right away. They sent us to Children's Hospital to have x-rays done. Ten minutes after we left the x-ray table, Jerrod called and said he was looking at them and that nothing looked broken. Long story short, he had some of his ortho friends check out the x-rays and they recommended casting anyway due to the swelling and tenderness, assuming because of those symptoms, she had fractured her growth plate. She is in a HOT pink cast for 3 weeks. It's going to be a long 3 weeks! Poor little girl!

I love that Camryn still gives me hugs and kisses before she goes in the building. There are all kinds of kids of all different ages out front, and now matter what, she always gives me a hug, a kiss and says "I love you Mommy!" I don't want that to ever stop! Our mornings are usually hectic as we scurry to get everything and everyone together. For some reason that helps to slow everything down and put things back into perspective for the day.

Rainy Day

So, apparently it actually rains here in Pittsburgh. Something we're not used to from Colorado! It's so nice to have green grass and all of the different types of trees, but 2 weekends in a row of rain just isn't fair! This is what we found to occupy our time... We blew pink, orange and blue bubbles and then popped them on white paper. It made neat designs that we turned into cards. More than making the cards, the kids liked seeing who could build the tallest bubble tower!
